A ball attachment is a removable denture attachment with a ball-socket design and a spherical metal alloy or plastic abutment mounted in an accessory metal housing. It consists of two parts: a male component and a female component. The male component is a spherical component placed on the implant, and the female component is a receptacle-shaped component placed on the denture. The two components are locked together to form a strong connection.
Ball attachments may be preferred for people with bone health or strength issues, and older patients with tooth loss. Ball attachment dentures provided patients with approximately 60% of the natural dental function compared to loose dentures, which provided only 10% of the function.
